End of Tenancy Cleaning Checklist

Moving out in Southend, Leigh, Westcliff or anywhere across SS0–SS9? Letting agents in Essex have a fairly consistent bar for what counts as a "professional clean". Miss any of it and you risk a deposit deduction.

Kitchen

  • Degrease the oven, racks, trays, glass door and seals
  • Wipe down the hob, splashback and extractor (replace the filter if greasy)
  • Empty, defrost and wipe the fridge and freezer
  • Descale the kettle, sink and taps
  • Wipe inside every cupboard and drawer
  • Clean the washing machine drawer, seal and filter

Bathroom

  • Descale the shower head, screen, taps and tiles
  • Clean and disinfect the toilet (including the base)
  • Wipe extractor fan covers
  • Polish mirrors and chrome
  • Remove mildew from sealant where possible

Living spaces and bedrooms

  • Dust skirting boards, picture rails, door tops and light fittings
  • Wipe internal doors, frames, handles and switches
  • Clean inside windows and window tracks
  • Vacuum carpets — professionally clean if the inventory says so
  • Spot-clean walls and remove cobwebs

Final checks

  • Bins emptied and washed
  • All keys, fobs and meter readings ready for handover
  • Photos taken of every room for your records
