Post-Party Cleaning: A 4-Hour Recovery Plan
Whether it was a 40th, a christening or a wake, here's the fastest order of operations to get your home back.
Hour 1 — Triage
- Bin all disposables, bag up recycling
- Move all glassware and crockery to the kitchen
- Strip soiled linens straight into the wash
- Open every window for 10 minutes
Hour 2 — Kitchen reset
- Run the dishwasher on a hot cycle while you hand-wash glassware
- Wipe every surface with a degreaser
- Mop sticky spots, especially around the fridge and bin
Hour 3 — Living spaces
- Vacuum all soft furnishings and floors
- Spot-treat carpet stains with cold water and a microfibre (never rub)
- Wipe down door handles, switches and toilet handles — high-touch points
Hour 4 — Finishing touches
- Refill soap, replace hand towels
- Light a candle or use an air-purifying spray
- Take the bins out — outside, not just to the kitchen door
